Spike VAR
Every spike gets a video-referee review before anyone gets paged.
The job
Decides at a glance whether a spike is a real crowd, one loud account, a pile-on aimed at someone else or an old story resurfacing, so only real fires get resources and the negative-share measure stays honest and auditable.
The moment
A social media roast, where people pile in to mock the person who posted, sets off 311 alerts. Before anyone is paged, the app reviews the spike like a video referee.
The alerts collapse into one card. The pile-on is aimed at the poster, not the company, so it is disallowed. Only 9 people are actually complaining about the company, and those go ahead.
The big screen flashes the decision, and the share of negative posts drops from 23% to 16%.
A footnote lists exactly what was excluded and why.
What it does
- Make the referee call
- Play on: hand a real crowd to the Desk
- Mark a call overturned
- Sign off and send the exclusion ledger
What you see

What it moves
Pages avoided each month (alerts collapsed after review), the adjusted share of negative posts with the number excluded, and how often the review's calls are overturned (target under 10%).
