What we counted
The share held between 24% and 31% in every complete quarter. In late September 2025 the CFPB’s split between these two categories moved, so we count them together rather than report a jump that is only relabelling.

Limits
Complaints to a regulator are a small, self-selected slice, and a complaint is a claim, not a finding. No company accounts for more than 25% of these complaints.
Source: CFPB Consumer Complaint Database (structured records, CC0), read 25 Sep 2026. Sample: 181,901 credit card complaints; 51,258 in the two categories. Period: received 2 Sep 2024 to 30 Aug 2026; the chart shows the seven complete quarters, Q4 2024 to Q2 2026. Aggregation: sub-issue “isn’t resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement” plus issue “problem with a company’s investigation into an existing problem”, counted together. Caveat: the CFPB’s split between the two moved in late Sep 2025; association, not cause.
